The Early Childhood Program offers Developmental Screenings to preschool-aged children in Geary County throughout the year. At these screenings, your child will rotate through various stations where licensed Early Childhood educators will ask them to demonstrate their current skills in the areas of Motor Development, Communication, and Concept Knowledge. In addition, children’s hearing and vision are screened and information related to their Self-Help and Social-Emotional Development is gathered from families. Their scores in all areas are compared to other children their age to give staff a percentile, indicating if their current skill levels fall in the range of average development. These screening results are shared with families and staff members’ educational recommendations for next steps are discussed as well.
